Botswana Travel Guide - Best Time of Year to Visit Botswana

Botswana is known for its diverse landscape - a stunning panorama that is truly a treat for wildlife enthusiasts. With a population of around 2 million people, Botswana offers a wide variety of natural attractions to the visitors. Botswana travel guide offers some interesting facts on Botswana and guides you through the various destinations. Serengeti safaris in particular have gained much popularity owing to the good game and beautiful scenery.

The country is situated in Southern Africa at the southernmost tip of Africa. Its main cities are Gaborone and Maun among others, which are home to many renowned attractions. Botswana, an antelope-fringed country in Southern Africa, has an exquisite landscape defined by the majestic Kalahari Desert, the massive Okavango Delta and the spectacular Kalahari grasslands, which transforms the country into a lush, vegetation-filled desert during the dry, hot summers. The largest Central Kalahari Game Reserve has thirty-two parks and more than a million visitors every year.

Other popular wildlife destinations in Botswana are the Okavango Delta which provides a wide variety of birdlife, crocodiles, wild pigs and hippos, and the Chobe River where fishing and game viewing is a favorite. The Okavango Delta provides water and other nutrients to grasslands for plant growth and migration, and is also an important source of food and livelihood for communities dependent on it for their food. Birdwatching during the dry season is popular with populations of a variety of songbirds including egrets, warblers, chickadees, blue birds, and black-necked storks.

Today, there is no fighting and most settlements provide a wide range of livestock and farming. Tourism can be characterized as a large industry, supported by both local and international trade. Many countries, like South Africa and Namibia, allow trade in rhino horns, ostrich feathers, chewed coconuts and bush nuts, which are hunted throughout Africa. However, Botswana Safari is one of the few countries that do not allow rhino horn trade due to the illegal killing of millions of rhinos over the last three decades. In addition to supporting tourism, Botswana tourism also benefits from international trade, as items like antiques and jewellery can be imported and exported to enhance a country's wealth.

There are several regions in Botswana that appeal to different types of travellers. The Okavango Delta region, which is located in the northwest corner of Botswana, offers pristine beaches, dunes and waterfalls. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is popular with families for its safaris. The Serengeti is also a popular destination for luxury travel, where visitors can observe wild animals like leopards, lions, elephants, and zebras. Some of the best hotels in Botswana are located in the Serengeti. Other areas that are popular with tourists include the Victoria Falls, the Kalahari Desert, and the Okavango Delta.

In order to experience the best time of year for visiting Botswana, the best time to go there is from May to October, when the dry season is the longest. However, the ideal season to visit Botswana is between December to April, as the dry season is the shortest in the country. Luxury hotels in Botswana are plentiful, and it is easy to find a number of lodges suitable for your requirements. Most hotels provide visitors with the option of self-contained accommodation, including air conditioned rooms, showers, and bathrooms.
